Anatomical Snuff Box Angioplasty – For AV fistula Salvage

A 65 year-old male – A case of Chronic Kidney disease on Maintenance Haemodialysis under the Nephrology team presented with low flows in the AV Fistula. The same was diagnosed by the Nephrology team and patient was referred for a Salvage of fistula.

Anatomical Snuff Box Angioplasty by Dr Ashutosh K Pandey

An Angioplasty of the fistula was done through Distal most radial artery puncture, a rarely described approach for interventions (Snuff Box). The patient resumed dialysis the next days after procedure with good flows. The patient is being managed by Nephrology Team for CKD.

This approach has the benefit of being less invasive, preserves distal flows and decreases the incidence of arterial occlusion. Though described in cardiology interventions very rare peripheral interventions have been done via this route.
